Wolves technical director Scott Sellars set to leave club
Wolverhampton Wanderers technical director Scott Sellars is set to leave the Midlands club.
It is understood that the 58-year-old is expected to depart after being at Wolves since 2014.
He originally held the role as under-23s manager before “moving upstairs” three years ago, first as head of player development, then head of the academy and eventually technical director in 2021.

Although Sellars held the title of technical director, a large proportion of players arriving at Molineux did so via super agent Jorge Mendes, with the say-so of executive chairman Jeff Shi.
From 2017 to 2019, the club’s hit rate on first-team signings was near perfect. Raul Jimenez, Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho, Willy Boly, Jonny Castro Otto, Adama Traore and Leander Dendoncker have all proved huge successes.
However, when it came to improving on the team which finished seventh in 2018-19, Wolves have struggled.
Sellars, who coordinated the work of analysts, sports scientists, scouts, coaches and academy staff as a footballing figurehead, has since come under scrutiny from Wolves supporters, with the club currently bottom of the Premier League table.
News of Sellars’ departure comes at a time of change for Wolves, with Julen Lopetegui recently being confirmed as the club’s new head coach.
Lopetegui started work at Wolves earlier this week, having watched on from the stands as they lost 2-0 to Arsenal in their final game before the World Cup.
Lopetegui’s backroom staff, which includes Fran Garagarza, the long-time Eibar technical director, as a technical advisor, and Lopetegui’s son Daniel as an analyst, is significant.
Although Sellars didn’t have as much input into signings as many other technical directors, their arrivals suggest he would have been sidelined even further in that particular aspect of the job.
When speaking about potential new signings, Lopetegui recently admitted that he wanted to add more balance to Wolves’ team.
He said: “I think that we are able to do better for sure but we have to balance the team, this is my impression.
The former Sevilla and Real Madrid coach was asked if he knew in which areas he wanted to strengthen but remained coy, saying: “Yes, but that is not information for you.
“I am open but not that much.”
Wolves are next in action in the Carabao Cup against Gillingham on December 20.
